What's Bothering Holden? By Terryl, Cody, Zach. B, Topher

The symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress are having very emotional  thoughts when a name or place is brought up or when seeing  picture/something which may resemble them or bring up a memory. Also people with this PTSD may feel emotionally numb, and they may loose sleep because of their harsh memories.

Also the five stages of grieving are: Denial where you say that the person is still alive. the second is anger, where you are mad at the person who died for dieing. the third stage is  bargaining in this stage you relive past memories and then change your actions or what you said every time you relive the memory. The fourth stage is depression where you become lethargic and sad all the time. And the final stage is acceptance where you still miss the person but you can move on with your life and be among the living.

We think that Holden is in the Bargaining/Depression stages of the emotional process. He has re-occurring thoughts about his little brother, Allie, and lets it influence his life, and the way he converses with other people. Another reason we think Holden is stuck between these two stages is because when you lose someone who is that close to you it feels like your heart has been ripped in half. Also you feel like you can never move on because you feel like they were everything you ever had that made you happy.  We think that Holden needs to get major help before he hurts himself or someone else.

  1. Although I think that Holden needs help, I don't think that he has reoccuring flashbacks or thinks about him all the time. I believe that he has mooved on to the depression stage.

  3. i think it is very possible for holden to have ptsd, i also thought you had so very good findings. it was nice that you added the 5 stages of grieving, thought that was a nice touch. i believe holden could have this, but he seems like he could have more than one thing ya know what i'm saying..

  4. if holden does have something like bipolar, and he's still depressed, that could explain why he's all ...... the way he is. he sort of has mood swings, and they seemed to be influenced by his thoughts about Allie and the events that happened when he died. do maybe it's a combination of both.

  5. I agree with you guys on the reoccuring thoughts and that it maybe possible to have ptsd but yet unlikely he is still a teen and i would give him a few years before i would diagnosed him with a disorder. I also believe it was a great touch to add the 5 stages of grieving like caitlin said.

  7. I think that when Holden is gulity about leaving Allie out of his bebe gunn escapade, and really regrets not allowing him to come along, it shows the bargaining stage of the five stages,

  8. I do not believe that Holden has PTSD but does have some problems. I just think he is very lonely. His brother just died and he most likely feels left and needs some friends.I think is accepting the facts, without withdraw or denial.
